![]() The grounds around the area are beautiful so I really wanted to get outside and have the city of Columbia as a background to the pictures. We had to run through the rain to get to the State House, and all the pictures had to be done inside. The only problem was the terrible weather that day. This bride has family that works in the government so we had special access to go wherever we wanted. It’s always fun to take pictures somewhere I’ve never been. The first bridal session was at the South Carolina State House in Columbia. Have one ordered with time for your bridal portraits. You can also bring your heels, but mostly you won’t need them unless we do specific shots where your feet will show. I’m talking about flip flops, flats, tennis shoes, whatever. Also the Arboretum allows members to stay from 6-8pm on Wednesdays and the lighting is better during the spring, summer and early fall months. Weekdays are less busy and you don’t have to wait endless minutes on taking turns at the prettiest spots. If you can do the session during the week, try your hardest to get hair and makeup on board months ahead.It has that rule, and it’s always better anyway because you can save time. So even if you have a big puffy wedding dress and it sounds like it will be a chore to hop in a car and get to The Arboretum. Dallas Arboretum will not let you change on the property. A few things I always tell my brides who choose to do bridal portraits at the Dallas Arboretum as their location for bridal portraits: I love the spring and summer sessions here, mainly because of the extra time we get on Wednesday’s but also because of the pretty blooms.
